WASHINGTON—A total of 775 banks, or one-tenth of all U.S. banks, were on the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.'s list of "problem" institutions in the first quarter, as bad loans in the commercial real-estate market weighed on bank balance sheets.
Poor loan performance in other sectors also continued to hurt banks, with the total number of loans at least three months past due climbing for the 16th consecutive quarter, FDIC officials said in a briefing on Thursday.
"The banking system still has many problems to work through, and we cannot ignore the possibility of more financial market volatility," FDIC Chairman Sheila Bair said.
There were 702 on the FDIC's "problem" bank list at the end of 2009 and 252 at the end of 2008. …”

At a recent Council on Foreign Relations speech in Montreal, co-founder with David Rockefeller of the Trilateral Commission and regular Bilderberg attendee Zbigniew Brzezinski warned that a “global political awakening,” in combination with infighting amongst the elite, was threatening to derail the move towards a one world government….
… the global elite is infighting amongst itself and this is hampering efforts to rescue the agenda for global government, which seems to be failing on almost every front.
Brzezinski then explained another significant factor in that, “For the first time in all of human history mankind is politically awakened – that’s a total new reality – it has not been so for most of human history.”…
…In his 1970 book Between Two Ages: America’s Role in the Technetronic Era, Brzezinski wrote the following.
“The technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society. Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values. Soon it will be possible to assert almost continuous surveillance over every citizen and maintain up-to-date complete files containing even the most personal information about the citizen. These files will be subject to instantaneous retrieval by the authorities.”
The “elite” to which Brzezinski refers included many of those who were in attendance for his speech at the CFR meeting. The global political awakening which Brzezinski discussed represents part of the resistance to that very elite dominated society and the systems of control, subjugation and surveillance that they have imposed upon the human race in pursuit of a “more controlled society” and a one world government.

The next time you fall asleep in front of the TV, someone, or rather something, could be watching you – and all in the name of saving energy.
Sony last year launched a new addition to its Bravia range of TVs, which features facial recognition technology similar to that found in the electronics giants' most advanced cameras. As a result, the TV is able to "watch" you and can turn the picture off if you nod off in front of Match of the Day, saving the energy used by the backlight.
The Bravia WE5 also features a heat and motion sensor that similarly allows the system to turn off the picture if it is left playing to an empty room, and an ambient light sensor that reduces the output from the TV's backlight depending on the brightness of the room...."

Trilateral Commission member Mikhail Slobodovsici, a chief adviser to the Russian leadership, unwittingly provided a revealing insight into the plans of the global elite during the group’s recent meeting in Dublin Ireland, when he mistakenly told a We Are Change Ireland activist he thought was a fellow TC member that the globalists are planning a war with Iran.
According to Jim Tucker’s fascinating report on the story, Slobodovsici also let slip to We Are Change Ireland’s Alan Keenan that the Trilateralists and their BIlderberg counterparts are intent on exploiting the economic crisis to finalize plans for a world government, but that this agenda is being severely hampered by so-called “nationalists” who are becoming increasingly aware of the impact that global government will have on their freedom and standards of living.
“We are deciding the future of the world,” Slobodovsici told Keenan. “We need a world government,” he said, but, referring to Iran, said “we need to get rid of them.”
“Suddenly, Slobodovsici noticed that Keenan’s nametag was different from the TC label and said: “I can’t talk—we operate under Chatham House rules,” reports Tucker.
Slobodovsici’s position on Iran is both alarming and surprising in equal measure, given that Russia has been generally supportive of Iran’s right to develop a peaceful nuclear fuel program and has directly helped build reactors.
Tucker also reveals that Trilateralists are crestfallen at how their plans for global government and centralization of power are being so fiercely resisted.
“It gets worse every year, not better,” one said. “Why do we even bother to meet anymore?”

The “HOPE” of real getting real banking reform under this administration is dead. Dead on arrival. What is left is the “Chris Dodd Big Banking Giveaway Plan” which is to banking “reform” what Obamacare was to “healthcare reform”.
Last night the Brown/Kaufman amendment was shot down by a vote of 61-33. The amendment would have broken up the largest 6 banks and then set limits on the size these institutions could become so their failure could not threaten the entire system. Thus… “too big too fail” would have been a thing of the past. 27 senate democrats voted with the large majority of republicans to kill the amendment and for the most part, the 30 who voted for the bill were either coming up on an election cycle this year, or they switched their votes after seeing the bill was going to fail. A clever little trick legislators use to end up on the “right side” of a voting issue.
Though top Obama administration officials have not publicly opposed the amendment, its leading economists have opposed ending Too Big To Fail simply by breaking up the nation’s financial behemoths. Austan Goolsbee and Larry Summers have both fought back against this idea, as has Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.
… Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) and Dodd of Connecticut spoke against the amendment.
Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.) was indignant. “I don’t understand this Brown-Kaufman amendment. Basically, what it says is if you’re successful…you’re going to break them up? I mean, where does this stop? Do we take McDonald’s on?” Huffpo
This took place yesterday while another popular piece of legislation was being gutted by one of its authors.
Ron Paul is livid and he has pulled his support from the “Audit the Fed” bill.
I know that sounds crazy… Ron Paul has been pushing for this kind of accountability from the for-profit Federal Reserve Bank for decades. But yesterday, when the bill looked as if it were going to be passed, Ron Paul pulled his support and is actively campaigning against it.
He has good reason.
In a move frighteningly reminiscent of the now infamous Air Force One flight where single-payer advocate and “Obamacare” opposition leader Dennis Kucinich was brought before the anointed One, Barack Obama, for a little position changing “chat”, Bernie Sanders was brought in to the White House late yesterday to work out a “compromise” on the “Audit the Fed” bill. No one knows why the “compromise” was even needed with the Pro-Banking Industry Obama White House since by all accounts, the bill had the votes to pass in the Senate as it was.
But, Bernie Sanders was brought before “the man” and had a little pow-wow in the White House. Since Sanders is one of the authors of the bill, he was authorized to change it, and “CHANGE” is what the White House got…
Thursday afternoon, Deputy Treasury Secretary Neal Wolin voiced the administration’s opposition to the audit proposal. But hours later, following negotiations with Sanders, Wolin withdrew the opposition. Raw Story
“Bernie Sanders has sold out and sided with Chris Dodd to gut Audit the Fed in the Senate. His “compromise” is what the Adminstration and banking interests want: they’ll allow the TARP and TALF to be audited, but no transparency of the FOMC, discount window operations or agreement with foreign central banks. We need to take aciton and stop this!” Ron Paul
The audit is only allowed back to December 2007, which leaves most of the work of the Fed’s Open Markets Committee in the dark — they were the ones who were supposed to be watching over Wall Street when they were laying the groundwork for the collapse. And according to Jay Newton-Small of Time Magazine, there will only be one audit — it will not be ongoing.
Ron Paul and Alan Grayson worked like dogs to get this through the House. And the White House would not have gone to Sanders if they’d been able to peel off the votes to tank the amendment. But with 68 Senators having voted for it or cosponsored it in the past year, that was a heavy lift. Bernie was the weak link. Firedoglake
How did all this happen late yesterday afternoon? What was the threat that forced all of these legislators to vote against the will of the people and to suddenly side with the corrupt banks? How on earth did all this happen LATE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON?
Hmmmm…. what else happened yesterday, PRIOR to the vote in the senate and Bernie Sander’s meeting in the White House? Hmmm…
Could it be the “glitch” in the supercomputer that crashed the stock market by nearly a 1000 points in a few minutes? Could that have had something to do with it?
Could it have been Goldman Sachs and the big 6 mega banks sending a message to congress that if they think they are going to break up their hold on this nation, they will bring it all down with their stock market manipulating supercomputer?..."

The White House gets its way again. They get their way on two measures that would have given the people at least a little control of the “too big too fail” banking system. But how they got it, well that might just be the REAL story of the day.

“America and the world face a financial conflagration of immense proportions. The world of fiat money and massive credit is buckling under the pressure of unpayable debt. Each day the safe haven of gold and silver related assets become more attractive. We ask where else do you go for safety? A conflagration is a fire out of control and that is exactly the conditions the world faces today. The inflationary depression has smoldered for 14 months and it will soon accelerate.
For the last 15 years the world has lived far beyond its means especially the US, UK and Europe and as we all know that cannot continue indefinitely. The federal government continues to hire when it should be firing. Having lost 80% of our industrial base we struggle in a service economy that cannot service 300 million plus people, never mind supply exports to offset the cost of imports that we no longer manufacture. We now supply indefinite unemployment benefits, which in reality cannot go on forever. The fiscal debt spirals ever higher and the Fed creates money and credit with no end in sight, which devalues the dollar. Taxation on individuals and businesses continues relentlessly higher. This is the way of corporatist fascism. This is now the way of America….
…We do not believe the powers that be want Greece to bite the dust just yet, as we pointed out previously. We believe they envision a simultaneous collapse of many nations and multilateral devaluation and debt default. This is their style. This way they believe they can control things and cover up one of the biggest transfers of wealth and power in history. The elitists expect to then usher in world government, as they create another world war….”
